About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Operations Manager to lead the planning, costing and operational execution of large-scale events, exhibitions and special projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing complex event operations, particularly major sporting events, national celebrations, international exhibitions, outdoor events and large-scale event infrastructure projects.

This role requires a commercially minded professional who can manage projects from tender and quotation stages through construction, installation, event operations and dismantling, while maintaining strong control over project costs, timelines, quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Manage end-to-end project operations, from initial planning, tender preparation and costing through onsite execution and dismantling.
  • Oversee the operational delivery of major events, sporting events, exhibitions and large-scale temporary event infrastructure.
  • Develop detailed project schedules, manpower plans, construction methodologies and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate site preparation, fabrication, installation, event operations, move-in and move-out activities.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and in accordance with client specifications and safety requirements.

Tendering, Costing & Commercial Management

  • Prepare project quotations, cost estimates, pricing proposals and tender submissions.
  • Review project specifications, technical drawings, material requirements and construction methods to establish accurate project costs.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend practical solutions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Monitor project budgets, expenditure and gross profit margins to achieve project profitability targets.
  • Manage vendor and subcontractor quotations, negotiations and procurement requirements.

Site Operations & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and coordinate onsite operations involving contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, technical crews and event personnel.
  • Manage logistics, equipment, materials, manpower deployment and construction schedules.
  • Liaise with clients, venue operators, consultants, regulatory authorities and other stakeholders on operational requirements.
  • Troubleshoot onsite challenges and implement timely solutions to minimise operational disruptions.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety, site regulations and established operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Event Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in event project operations, exhibitions, event construction or large-scale event infrastructure.
  • Proven experience managing major sporting events, national events, international exhibitions, outdoor events or large-scale public events.
  • Strong understanding of event construction, temporary structures, site logistics, installation and dismantling operations.
  • Experience in project tendering, quotation preparation, cost estimation and budget management.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and coordinate with design, production and construction teams.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfortable working onsite, including evenings, weekends and public holidays when required by project schedules.
  • Workplace safety training or relevant certifications, such as Building Construction Supervisors Safety Course or bizSAFE training, would be advantageous.

What We Are Looking For

A resourceful, commercially astute and operationally strong project professional who thrives in fast-paced, high-pressure event environments. You should be equally comfortable preparing project costings, coordinating multiple stakeholders and taking charge of complex onsite operations.

If you have successfully delivered major events where precision, safety, tight deadlines and seamless execution are critical, we would like to hear from you.
